You’ve probably heard of decision fatigue. If you haven’t, it’s the idea that we only have mental capacity to make so many decisions in the day – which is why many high-performing individuals try to strip out unnecessary decisions from their day. One famous example is Mark Zuckerberg’s work wardrobe (he wears the same type of grey t-shirt and jeans every day).
Another more scary one is that prisoners going up before a parole board are less likely to be granted parole if their appearance is in the afternoon. Yep, that’s true – so if you want someone to make a positive decision about you it’s better to get in front of them earlier in their day.
Well, I think that process fatigue is a real problem as well. I’ve just coined the phrase, so bear with me. My idea of process fatigue is where you have a functional process, but you put off using it because there are so many tiny steps that you just can’t face it. A bit like when you see a really long email and you just don’t have enough brain space to read it right now so you put it off for later.
Making it better
We know that bob is already well on the way to streamlining, simplifying and automating most of the essential HR processes for businesses today. However, we’re saving you from process fatigue (and speeding things up!) by making small tweaks to different parts of bob to make it better, easier, and quicker.
Here’s three little things that will make a big difference to your everyday use of bob:
As our customers grow with us, we’ve noticed an increasing need to quickly slice and dice lists of the people in their businesses to see everyone in a specific department or other group, at the same time.
bob’s new quick filters allows you to filter information quickly in grids in the people directory (as in the example above), and also in Time Off, Reports, and Benefits. You’ll soon be able to do the same thing just about everywhere else too.
You are currently able to filter by:
- Site and Department
- Employee status (active/inactive)
- Team (for managers: direct/indirect teams and colleagues)
You can still add custom filters by selecting ‘more’, and the search works as it did before, we’ve just made filtering, well, quicker!
No more going back and forth from people’s profiles to the Directory when you want to look up individual details. All profiles now have back and forward navigation buttons. These allow you to flip through the order of people set in the Directory. Like I said, it’s the little things…
New employee termination flow
We have expanded our People actions and now differentiate between work-related changes and status changes. Admins can now implement certain actions for a specific employe from that person’s profile (as in the image above) or for one or more people from the People Directory.
When you choose to terminate an employee, a short dialogue will appear to help you better manage this process. That’s what you can see above.
At this point you will be able to specify:
- The employee’s termination date
- The reason for their termination
- Trigger the Offboarding Workflow (if you have set it up already – we’ve created one for you, just edit it to suit)
When the termination date that you have chosen arrives, bob will automatically make the employee inactive and start the Offboarding task flow (if you’re using it).
