This week’s featured perk is one of our own. At bob as we get together for fish & chips as a team each Friday lunch time.

bob CMO, Andy Bellass, decided to instigate Fisherman’s Fridays when the team in the London office reached a whole three people. We’re now eleven people in the office and continue this tradition.

It’s a simple set-up: on Friday lunch times, the London team (including any team members visiting from our Tel Aviv office) go out for fish & chips together.

Why it works?

Andy explains:

“It’s important for us to take time together, over some nice food, to chat about non-work stuff. It fosters a greater appreciation of who we each are as people – and, let’s face it, everyone works harder for other people that they like! There’s something very primal about eating as a group and it really works for us”.

Team meals aren’t a revolutionary idea and this is just the way that bob does it. Organisations such as The Eden Project have been eating together on an informal and regular basis for a long time. Eden Project Founder, Tim Smit, credits an element of their success to the greater team cohesion and enhanced bonds that come from sitting down as a group to eat (see his Rule No. 9).

It also doesn’t hurt that everyone loves proper chips, and that we have some great places to get them close to the bob office! One of our favourites is Old Fountain.
